An analysis of the results of the diagnostics of the pipe state in gas mains was performed based on the data of intrapipe magnetic nondestructive testing of gas mains in order to evaluate the danger of the detected flaws and verify the accomplishment of a regular (35 year) intrapipe inspection. Stresses in pipe walls, which are induced by the internal gas pressure, were found to indirectly affect the origination of stress corrosion in gas pipelines of different diameters. The actual pipe loads due to the action of the internal gas pressure are ambiguous for different standard pipe sizes. Substantial overloading (from the action of the internal pressure through stresses in the pipe walls) was observed in operating pipes of all diameters.
