The presented numerical thermal comfort predictions are based solutions of the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equation. The latter are based on the Boussinesq approximation and on modelling of the thermal surface to surface radiation in two different aircraft cabins as well as the coupling with the finite element code THESEUS. The latter allows to simulate the heat transport within the passengers and the perceived temperatures and passenger comfort. It was shown that with the presented approach the thermal comfort prediction agrees well with experiments. The analysis of the results further revealed that a proper modelling of the clothing is of particular importance for a realistic prediction of thermal radiation within cabin. The comparison of the thermal comfort prediction with experimental results obtained with human beings in the Do728 cabin reveals a good agreement and underlines the reliability of the numerical simulations.
