Global demand for mobility is increasing dramatically. Today, transportation is consuming nearly half of the world's crude oil production. Population is growing, urbanization is increasing, and environmental and infrastructure concern will hit us. It is likely that Motorcycles, in an evolutionary form, will be one part of the solution for Future Mobility. Here we will try to give insights on what could be the fuel in future to fulfill the growing energy needs of a globally increasing mobility, including the use in Motorcycles. Energy supply for transportation must be seen in the context of the global energy challenge. At Shell, we see three 'hard truths': (1) accelerating global energy demand, (2) the difficulty of meeting that demand with 'easy' conventional oil and gas, and (3) a further increase in global carbon dioxide emissions. Shell explores how to address the challenges of these three hard truths in its recently published Shell Long-term Energy Scenarios to 2050. Sustainable mobility will be one of the greatest challenges of the future. Transportation already causes 25% of global energy-related CO2 emissions, and motorization and mobilization will increase further. Transportation fuels can deliver important contributions to energy and greenhouse gas solutions. Shell is pursuing four alternative fuel options in close cooperation with leading automotive OEMs: (1) synthetic fuels from natural gas, (2) gas as transport fuel, (3) biofuels 2nd generation, and is (4) engaging in hydrogen technology.
