Technological developments as well as the pressure on railways to cut costs are resulting in the increasing application of IT-basecl interfaces in the area cf interlocking systems. However, only by creating precise, open interface standards can the dependency on specific suppliers be avoided and the life cycle costs of the systems kept down to a reasonable level. For this reason, the S3B is in ihs process of standardising key interfaces both between interlocking systems as well asl between interlocking central computers and their periphery elements. Within the scope of the S33 SwISS project, model-based interface specifications as well as further key system documents for the implementation of the SwISS interfaces are being developed. By November 2012, specifications validated and verified by the S3B supply partners will be available for product development.
