In this paper, the aerodynamic drag of different opening window degree was studied both in the numerical simulations and in the wind tunnel test. The results of the two methods are analysed together. It can be found that when the car is running on the road at a lower speed (below 90 km/h), the power consumed by the opening windows is less than the power consumed by the air conditioner. While the car is running at a higher speed (over 90 km/h), the aerodynamic drag is increasing sharply. At the same time, the power consumed by the aerodynamic drag is rising obviously. As a result, the power consumed by the aerodynamic drag becomes greater than the power consumed by the air conditioner. Meanwhile, if the window is opened when the car is running at a higher speed, the noise inside the car will become louder suddenly. This will make passengers feel uncomfortable. So when the car is used in the urban areas at a lower speed, opening the windows and closing the air conditioner is a better choice. The driver and passengers can feel the nature and enjoy themselves in the breeze. What is more, it can reduce the power consumed by the air conditioner, save fuel and save money.
