In hot environments, soldiers experience high levels of heat stress. This can cause dehydration and even death through thermal regulatory malfunction of the human body when its cure temperature reaches 39 °C. This research explores the relationship between the core temperature and microclimate temperature/humidity to develop a core temperature prediction equation. A series of thermal manikin experiments were conducted in an environmental chamber (20 °C, 50 % relative humidity) with microclimate temperature and humidity monitored at two locations (chest and back) and manikins core temperature was varied systematically (36 °C - 39 °C). The manikin wore military clothing and armor. Results showed a linear relationship between core and skin temperature, sweat rate, and microclimate temperature. A core temperature prediction equation was suggested.
