This paper presents a hybrid controller of heavy duty series hybrid electric vehicle. The objective of hybrid controller is to control driving motor of the vehicle with driver's demand, and control engine-generator to maintain battery SOC in proper level considering the system to have high fuel efficiency. To develop the hybrid controller, vehicle backward/forward model has been developed. Backward model has been developed to design power flow management algorithm and confirm optimal performance of the system. Forward model has been developed to design driving motor controller which contains regenerative-braking controller. Simulation is conducted with developed model and driving cycle of Seoul. The results show about 18~23% improvement in fuel economy depends on driving cycle compared with conventional target vehicle.
