The article describes principles of developing steels for maritime structures and main pipelines. The scientific approach lies in forming an ultra fine-grained and submicrocrystal structure through thermomechanical treatment of low-carbon low-alloyed steels, providing higher strength and resistance to brittle fracture. The article presents results of assessing the operability characteristics and introducing new steels.
