It is now possible to manufacture novel sophisticated and exciting engineering structures using modern advanced additive fabrication methods. These structures can be tailored to account for the specific requirements of their applications. However, the complex geometric results often prevent the efficient use of conventional volumetric inspection techniques to verify the quality needs imposed by their end use. A potential solution has been identified and evaluated, a proof of concept has been demonstrated and considerations arising from this are reported.
