At sufficiently high speeds, aerodynamic noise from trains becomes more important than rolling noise. However, there remains considerable uncertainty concerning the level of aerodynamic noise from trains, the relative contributions of the various sources and the parameters of major influence. In this paper, a component-based model is used to predict the aerodynamic noise from high-speed trains, and in particular the noise from the bogie region and the pantograph. The predicted noise has been compared with measurements of overall noise spectra from high-speed trains at various speeds and the approach appears promising.
