With today's strained competition automotive markets have changed. The situation of automotive supply chains is more and more affected by intensifying dynamics of globalized markets. For this reason, the (holistic) organization and coordination of supply chains is essential. Today, supply chains are reorganizing to lean production principals. The initiatives are often caused by instability problems, for example delays in information transfer, raising schedules variances etc. Accordingly production control concept contained the sequence fixed "pearl chain " could help to eliminate these effects and can be used to control production leanness. Hence, it is very difficult to support sustainable logistic stability. Further a holistic management tool is required. From prior research there is given no comprehensive approach that includes methods to measure, control and react within production control together with other perspectives. For this reason the paper presents a holistic pearl chain management concept (PCMC) based on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) approach, that is being developed and implemented in an industry pilot project together with the automotive manufacturing company Volkswagen Saxony. The authors present an implementation of this pearl chain manufacturing organization concept and its effects to other BSC perspectives. The paper investigates different parts for the implementation of the management tool. Firstly, the authors present a method for strategy formulation and selection. Afterwards, a method of how to build a systematic hierarchy of metrics in different perspectives is discussed to prioritize its strategic objectives. Recognizing the multiple objective nature of the problem, this paper proposes the use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is applied to define the most important strategic objective from different perspectives in the implemented example. Finally, the paper illustrates the influence of the pearl chain concept towards the four other perspectives: finance, customer, supplier and personnel.
