This article presents different approaches for the modelling of the gas pressure state during the pretensioning phase of a retractor pretensioner. Depending on the test scenario which is modelled in simulation and the accuracy required, there is a need for the three different models that are discussed. For finite element component simulations, where the loading capacity of parts is analysed, it is sufficient to directly apply the pressure from physical tests. If different pressure curves have to be examined, then the ideal gas law will be a suitable approach. The highest accuracy is reached with the gas generator combustion characteristic. The retractor pretensioner behaviour directly influences the burning characteristic of the gas generator. However, when this model is used, the MGG and the propellant type are required for the simulation. Then a wide range of parameter changes can be simulated with a good prediction capability. For this reason, the implementation of this combustion law model into the component simulation makes an essential contribution to the effectiveness of the development process of new retractor pretensioner designs. Further steps focus on the whole system chain including the coupling with the belt system including the dummy.
