The paper deals with the directivity of tire/road noise emission. Tires are the dominant noise sources in vehicles in typical driving conditions. The tire/road noise emission is never omnidirectional as it is generally assumed when used in road traffic noise calculation models. Such assumptions are made due to poor availability of vehicle noise directivity data. This can contribute to noise level prediction inaccuracies. The main purpose of performing measurements of tire/road noise emission directivity was to determine and compare the directivity patterns of noise from various passenger car tires rolling on various pavements. The selection of pavements consisted of 'normal-noise' and 'low-noise' pavements including experimental poroelastic pavements. The influence of speed, pavement and tire on noise emission directivity patterns is presented and discussed in this paper.
