Common active safety systems, that are base on differential braking, are not applicable in the case of motorcycles. In this paper an integrated active front steering (AFS)/ active seat system has been designed to improve motorcycle handling. Active seats can automatically control the rider/seat lean angle and AFS correct steering angle during every specific manoeuvre. In this study motorcycle handling models are introduced, then by using the optimal control theory, seat/steering integrated control strategy which works based on systems state variables feedback and the steering input feed-forward is developed. The simulation results indicate that proposed system makes the driving of motorcycles much easier and safer.
