In the current study, a multidisciplinary optimisation (M)DO of a car back-bonnet is accomplished by using RSM. By the surface modelling, a car structure in CATIA and meshing in HYPERMESH software, modal analysis of FE model is done by NASTRAN software. A frequency map of the car component is extracted and compared with a reference map to determine defects. In the DOE method, the total number of design variables is to be 4, including the longitudinal and transverse beams with a hat section and the thickness for bonnet plate and beams with three levels. Experiments are designed by MINITAB software. Among design variables, statistics results show that the thicknesses of beams are more effective based on the weight constraint and on the natural frequency constraint, the transverse and longitudinal beams are more effective. By optimising design variables, the back bonnet with two longitudinal beams, two transverse beams, with 1.8 mm thickness for bonnet plate and 2.0 mm thickness for beams are improved based on the NVH behaviour and weight constraints.
