Sophisticated vehicle control systems require a close coordination among ECUs. Highly dependable communication network is a backbone for these systems and how to develop it is a significant challenge in terms of electronic platform. In this work, we focus on membership middleware that is one of indispensable functionalities for the dependable network system. The membership middleware provides the application program with a consistent view on the status of other ECUs in the system. Thus, a disagreement in the control mode among ECUs can be avoided even though a certain network failure happens. This paper will discuss how to design the membership middleware including our proposed new protocol to reduce overhead of computation power and communication bandwidth, as well as formal verification process to guarantee design correctness.
