Short notice given only substantially as follows: Backpacks used by soldiers to carry water have been made lighter by the use of Invista's Cordura fabrics. The 55.56 tex (500 denier) polyamide fabrics replace those previously used by the manufacturer of the packs, CamelBak of Petaluma, California, USA, which were 111.11 tex (1000 denier). Invista claims its Cordura Classic fabrics have a tighter weave and are 35 % lighter in weight (for a given area) without sacrificing performance. In addition to providing infantry soldiers with a lighter load, Cordura Classic fabrics offer exceptional breaking strengths, tear resistances, dimensional stabilities and water resistances. These benefits are coupled with the fabric's built-in near infra-red reflectance (NIR). As a result, CamelBak now uses the fabric in a number of its tactical hydration packs: BFM 500, Motherlode 500, H.A.W.G. 500, TriZip, MULE. 500, ThermoBak 3L, Ambush AB 500, ThermoBak and ArmorBak. Cordura Classic fabrics are available in solution-dyed polyamide with various military camouflage patterns depending on the environment they are to be used in including Army Universal Camo (AUC).Airforce Tiger Stripe, Multicam, digital desert, coyote brown 498 and foliage green 504.
