The design of an electric vehicle requires the development and optimization of a complete electric powertrain, including battery, power electronics, electric machine, control system, etc. The paper presents an electrical powertrain simulation platform developed with Matlab-Simulink. There are two objectives for this platform: simulate the dynamic behaviour of the low-voltage and high-voltage networks for various driving cycles and optimize low-level and high-level control laws, taking into account some criteria such as range, performances, cost, weight and so on. These criteria are most of the time conflicting. The paper presents some simulation results obtained with the platform together with a comparison of different low-level control strategies. These strategies aim to optimize the overall powertrain efficiency and the vehicle range on several driving cycles.
