Globalization and ageing personnel are just two problems facing the aerospace industry. New partnerships aim to establish some common ground. For nearly 20 years, the mechanism by which aerospace industry has set a standardized level of quality for their special process suppliers is through Nadcap accreditation, part of the Performance Review Institute's customer solutions and support. Nadcap (National Aerospace and Defence Contractors Accreditation Program) is the largest programme for evaluating suppliers in the aerospace industry. The growing integration of Nadcap into the aerospace industry and its role in quality assurance is indicative of the commitment to excellence that is represented throughout the global aerospace community. Aerospace industry has a workforce dilemma, as in 2008, almost 60 % of aerospace workforce was aged 45 or older. Added to the problem of retirement, there are fewer new engineers entering the industry. Decades of knowledge and experience risk being lost forever. To combat personnel shortage and establish a standard level of skills, a new partnership with the aerospace industry is being formed. The hope is that the uncertainty and the risk of loss of skills will be eliminated through the provision of professional development courses and special process certification. The focus of the courses, named eQuaLearn and developed with input from industry experts, is on general quality topics so that the benefit will apply across all business areas.
