With growing concerns over emissions and man-made global warming, a wide variety of alternative fuels technologies are being considered for automotive propulsion. This paper expounds the concept and latest development of a liquid-nitrogen fuelled cryogenic engine as a potential zero emission technology. Initial experiments are performed on a two-stroke single cylinder engine with characterised engine performance through engine power, torque, speed and a variety of temperature and pressure measurement. The experiment reveals the potential of liquid nitrogen fuelled engines and identifies some current limitations for future development.
