A systematic methodology and application process of structure-borne noise transmission reduction with power-based transfer path analysis has been presented. The methodology has also been employed to reduce the interior structure-borne noise of a passenger car. In the analysis process, the relationship between the interior sound pressure level and total transmitted power flow is verified again. The estimation equations of the power flow of multiple/multi-dimensional paths, considering full coupling, are deduced on the base of linear network theory and Thevenin equivalent theorem. The contribution of each transfer path to the total power flow, as well as to the total sound pressure, is ranked subsequently. Meanwhile, the dominant paths and their key factors can be identified using the power flow estimation equations. Then, according to the results of power-based transfer path analysis, several experimental modifications such as connected locations, mount alternatives and local structural modifications of auto-body panels are proposed on the simulation model for improving the mobilities of the source subsystem and auto-body structure. Through the effect verification with simulation analysis, these modifications have given some good suggestions or yielded reductions up to 10 dB at the major interior structure-borne sound pressure peaks.
