The problem of flaw detection against a background of nonuniform structural noise is considered. The example of magnetic intratube flaw detection in seamless sections of trunk pipelines is analyzed. Synthesis of a two-dimensional optimal filter and application of the correlation method to a scaled model of a flaw are described. A comparative analysis of the application of this method to actual diagnostic signals is presented. As is seen from results, the joint or separate application of the optimal 2D filtering and correlation methods helps to appreciably increase the SNR and thus the efficiency of flaw detection. This method is applicable to data of different natures but requires the presence of models of sought anomalies for the correlation method and construction of SPDs for noise and the desired signal for the optimal filter.
