This paper gives an overview about the validation results of the development project for a train driver restraint system. The sled test purpose and specific set-up are defined. The comparison between sled test and simulation model of the driver's cab and the modulation of the simulation parameters can be found within this paper. For an increased protection of the train driver in crash cases it is recommended to integrate 2-dimensional airbag and knee protection active like a knee airbag or passive knee bolster into the driver's desk. For a further reduction of the injury risk for the standing driver it is recommended to design the sun visor in a way that it can serve as a possible head impact area so that it can absorb energy systematically. The energy absorption potential can be verified by trigger tests with head impactors. Moreover, it is recommended to remove all operating elements from the relevant areas in front of the occupant which may become an additional injury risk or which may influence the function of the restraint system like airbag deployment and to place them laterally.
