The European Space Agency (ESA) has been at the forefront of the implementation of lithium-ion batteries in space. The ESA spacecraft - PROBA and Mars Express were the first in LEO and Mars Orbit respectively to use lithium-ion batteries. The batteries for these missions were provided by ABSL Space Products (formerly AEA Technology). This paper will compare the in-orbit telemetry from these two missions with performance predictions from ABSL's software tools. The objective of the paper will be to quantify the usefulness of these predictive tools for long-term missions. Other software tools developed by the European Space Agency will also be used to help understand the current health status of these unique European assets.
