Traction substations of the Moscow metro constantly experience substantial load oscillations. Over the past decades, the problem of reusing the recuperation energy has failed to be solved due to a lack of the guaranteed energy receiver. To receive the recuperation energy, the installation of capacitive energy storage units in traction stations is suggested. Functions of the units are defined, and the advantages of the device are discussed. A schematic diagram and basic technical characteristics of the unit are given. This device is a DC converter with a two-sided variable transformer ratio based on the modern power modules IGBT of classes 12-17. A peculiarity of the operation of the presented circuit is the intermediate energy accumulation in the electromagnetic choke with its successive transfer into the capacitor, which results in a substantial increase in the efficiency of the operation of the entire unit. The preliminary technical and economic efficiency of the capacitive energy storage application is analyzed for the average statistical tractional station of the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line of the Moscow metro. The charging and decharging efficiency of the capacitor bank is higher than 85%. The payback period for the prototype model will be about 2.5 years. The suggested modular construction allows for the most optimal selection of the required exchange energy for other tractional stations.
