Recycling of ELV (end-of-life vehicles) is just at the beginning in China. Regulations exist since 2001. The recycling process changes due to the regions and other conditions; big differences exist from East to West China. A dismantling facility, funded by Shanghai authorities, exists in Shanghai. Especially the prediction of residual life time is investigated to increase the reuse. Organisation, management, logistics, dismantling facilities, warehouse management has to be developed. The following points should be considered with approaches for development of sustainable ELV recycling in China: (1) R&D for easy-to-recycle materials and parts; (2) Reduction in the amount of different materials used in vehicle manufacture; (3) Design for dismantling and design for recycling; (4) Increase in the amount of reused and remanufactured parts; (5) Reduction in the amount of additional shreddered residues; (6) R&D for clean energy recovery; (7) Life-cycle assessment for ELV recycling techniques.
