Q7 is the largest offshore wind farm in the Dutch sector of the North Sea and a step forward in the Netherlands renewable energy policy to boost wind energy production to 2750 MW by 2020. SIF Group bv manufactured the foundation piles and the transition pieces. The 07 offshore wind farm has been built some 23 km offshore from Ijmuiden, in block 07 of the Dutch continental shelf. It is unique in the sense that it is the world's first located at such a distance from the coast (outside the 12-mile zone) and in deeper waters than ever before (19-24 m). This was one of the reasons why its owners, sustainable energy group Econcern, and energy company ENECO Energy, selected the proven technology of the Vestas V-80 2.0 MW turbines. The project comprises 60 wind turbines with a total capacity of 120 MW. Under the Kyoto Protocol, The Netherlands agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in the period 2008-2012, by 6 % relative to the 1990 levels. The 07 project will contribute a reduction of 225000 tonnes of CO2 emission, annually.
