Within the framework of a collaborative project between CEA and EADS, a semianalytical model based on a volume integral method has been developed so as to simulate the Eddy Current (EC) inspection of riveted structures in aeronautics. The modeling accounts for a layered planar structure with a flaw located nearby a fastener. A Volume Integral Method (VIM) involving dyadic Green's functions is considered, a fastener and a flaw being introduced as a variation of conductivity in a stack of slabs. This semi-analytical flawed rivet model is compared with a finite element code and is validated with experimental data on two aeronautical configurations, with good agreement. Among the questions still open, how to better account for the discrepancy between the sizes of the rivet and of the flaw appears to be one of the most compelling one.
