For potential flow calculations high quality hull surface grids are required. Creating these grids is often the most expensive part of the hydrodynamic analysis. This paper presents a method for a fully automatic generation of structured ship hull surface meshes. The preparation of ship hull descriptions based on the IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) standard is discussed, including topology recovery and knuckle detection. Methods are presented to generate a block structured region model of the ship hull surface and to create structured meshes in single regions.
