For high-performance agricultural tractors, continuously variable power-split transmissions offer advantages with reference to optimal, consistent tractive force build-up and transfer of full engine power in the optimal fuel consumption speed range. The presented continuously variable transmission system for input power > 300 kW is based on the volume production ZF-Eccom 3.5 transmission system and covers a significant sector of the above described higher performance data for vehicles equipped with an articulated-vehicle steering. With the new, adapted reverse driving range, the simple mechanical front axle actuation mechanism, the optionally mounted PTO clutch, and the pump drive for working and steering hydraulics, the system is optimally geared to the requirements of this vehicle category. The higher spreading of the transmission also allows for a high tractive starting power paralleled by 40 km/h transport drive velocity at reduced optimal fuel consumption engine speed. Thanks to the integration of powerful modern electronics directly at the transmission, a completely new transmission system is supplied by a single source; this unit constitutes a path-breaking alternative to today's standard full load powershift transmissions.
