The addition of the geometrical tolerances belonging to the assembly components is known as tolerance analysis. Tolerance analysis is a critical step to design and build a product such as an aircraft. The present work shows an approach to translate a 3D tolerance analysis problem into simplified 2D tolerance analysis case studies. These 2D case studies are solved by an analytical approach that may be worst-case or statistical. The method has been applied to two aeronautic assemblies in order to control the tolerance assignment to the assembly's components. The two assemblies are structural basic components of an aircraft that involve regular or free form surfaces.
