Thermoelastic stress analysis was performed in conditions far from adiabaticity, obtaining quantitative results in good accordance with strain gages, which remain a standard reference method for stress measurement. The automatic correction procedure allowed a point-by-point automatic selection of the best correction function, among a group of correction functions. This procedure obtained better results than the first correction procedure, which required the intervention of an experienced operator. Thermoelastic stress analysis also demonstrated its capability both to support the optimum positioning of the strain gages and to validate finite element models. The automatic correction procedures made possible the application of thermoelastic stress analysis on real components, loaded at low modulation frequencies, as happens in real fatigue tests. This has evolved into a broader field of application for quantitative thermoelastic stress analysis, making it a new and important experimental tool for the understanding and measuring of the stress distribution on a component.
