Railway infrastructure proves to be quite a complicated system. Firstly, operations and infrastructure influence each other in various ways. The quality of the trains (rolling stock) influences the wear of the infrastructure and thus the amount of maintenance and renewal needed. Secondly, infrastructure failures data essential for planning the maintenance which will influence the reliability of operations. An important aspect of rail infrastructure is that the assets have long life spans and once installed it is very costly and complicated to modify the initial design. In this paper authors have developed a model for life cycle cost estimation of the railway track and discussed about the risk associated in the LCC analysis. There is always a risk involved with LCC forecasting. Some risks can be predicted and some can not be. Since LCC is used as a vital tool for project management to take decision on the future operation and maintenance of the product, it is understood that the risk should be known beforehand pertaining to LCC. A quantitative risk analysis can be done on the LCC of the track system to make LCC a robust tool.
