In various signal processing areas, simulated data is used in the first phase of algorithm development. Simulated data has the advantage that it provides an exact reference allowing to compute objective error measures. Further, no time-intensive measurement campaigns are necessary. In the field of automotive radar, however, real data is used from the beginning. This is due to the high complexity of the underlying electromagnetic wave model. In this paper, we present a model for the simulation of automotive radar target lists, i.e. the measured distance, angle, relative speed and amplitude of detected targets . that is much less demanding in terms of implementation and computation effort than, for example, a finite-element or ray-tracing model.
