This paper deals with camera calibration parameters required for automotive applications. At the beginning, minimal requirements for the output of a video sensor used by higher level driver assistance applications are presented. Both lane and object related issues are discussed. Based on the output requirements the 3D space projections in the image plane are computed. From the obtained formulas minimal camera calibration requirements and 3D reconstruction methods are derived. Alternative camera calibration methods are introduced. At the end, measurement errors due to calibration uncertainities are analyzed to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
