The ILS is used to assist the aircraft in its approach to a runway. The two most important ILS components are: the Localizer (Loc), responsible for the horizontal alignments control, and the Glide Slope (GS), responsible for the control of the approach angle. In order to assure the good operation of the ILS, it is necessary to calibrate the Loc and the GS. Inspections of alignment and structure of ILS signals are considered to be the most critical flight inspection issue in terms of the accuracy requirements imposed by ICAO. In this paper, the results derived from the alignment and structure of the localizer signal verification and the structure of the glide path signal verification in a Cat.II evaluation, using this technology, will be presented. It has been proved that the use of the RTT can generate accuracy errors concerning the alignment and structure of the ILS signals. Stand Alone GPS can meet ILS Cat.I verification. Additionally, the use of the C/A code DGPS technology results can meet alignment and structure of flight inspection requirements imposed by ICAO during the verification of the localizer signal Cat.II as well as glide path signal Cat. II. The use of the C/A code DGPS technology can assure azimuth error values lower than 0.0145 deg of angle for Zone 4 and elevation error values lower than 0.006 deg of angle, 95 % of the time. A Horizontal Position Error (HPE) less than 4.219 meters and a Vertical Position Error (VPE) less than 6.472 meters, 95 % of the time was achieved. Also, there is a comparison of the accuracy achieved from the alignment and structure of both the Localizer and the Glide Slope signals in a Cat.II ILS verification originated by using the RTT and the DGPS technology. It has been proved that the use of the RTT can generate accuracy errors concerning the alignment and structure of ILS signals.
