A new assembly plant development was started for producing various car engine parts for some European car producers at the Alba Plant, Visteon Hungary, Szekesfehervar in 1999 and it has been continuing so far in co-operation with the author and the Department of Manufacturing Engineering, BME. Within the very strict and serious requirements and specifications some new ideas for optimising the assembly process was even set out for the development as part of a new assembly process in the Alba Plant. Every assembling step - of the sub-assemblies containing sheet-metal parts - is executed by forming. The most problematic steps of the assembling process had (and still have) been the final crimping (i.e outward flanging) operations for closing the entire assembly. Emergent chips, stick-slipping effects, sensible crimping results to tribology, too much lubricant, failure in false rejections, etc, illustrate the range of problems had been waiting for solutions so far. In this conference paper the author is to summarise the results of co-operation and the development achieved in optimising the assembling process in the (Ford/Toyota/Nissan and Honda parts supplier) Alba Plant.
