An Hinfinite control of a hydraulic unit for DYC (Direct Yaw moment Control) is presented. A simple cascade model of the hydraulic unit is empirically developed. The model consists of experimentally estimated nonlinear steady-state performance maps of the solenoid valves and the identified linear dynamic model in an ARX (Auto-Regressive with eXogenous signal) form. A robust controller that meets the robust stability and performance requirements against the model uncertainty arising from oil temperature variation in the hydraulic unit is synthesized. The Hinfinite optimization technique plays a major role in delivering the required performance while overcoming the model uncertainty. Experimental results indicate that the proposed robust control system indeed performs decently and can bring significant improvement to automotive safety.
