Road safety depends frequently on an appropriate illumination at the front of the running vehicles. Unfortunately, automotive headlights do not always secure the right quality in conditions of night fogs which are unavoidable under the local climatic conditions. Studies undertaken by the authors aim to investigate the influence of the vehicle vibrations on the quality of illuminated road by the fog projectors, specifically in circumstances of limited visibility during night fogs. Fog projectors must satisfy special requirements regarding the intensity distribution and position in space. Proper fog projector lighting parameters can improve road traffic safety. The aim of the investigations was the analysis of dynamic changes of the vehicle position on the road surface and of the possibilities of correction of the consequences. Investigation of vehicle vibration dynamics as well as of its influence on the distribution of the projectors light beam allow to estimate the change of light conditions on the road. An average class passenger vehicle was used for the experimental study. In the article the results of road measurements of longitudinal accelerations acting on vehicles were presented. This accelerations have a direct influence on the inclination of the light beam of fog projectors. The analysis of light conditions shows a significant change of parameters of the vehicle foreground lighting. It can be stated, that the optimum value of the fog projectors beams setting angle is -1deg. The admissible deviations of angle changes are in range +/-1deg, but values above +/-3deg are inadmissible. The performed analysis suggests the necessity of introduction of an automatic system for the control of vertical positioning of fog projectors.
