With the development of new lighting functions such as Bending Light, several questions have to be clarified because traditional data cannot be applied or because it is necessary to identify new parameters which impact this new function. Concerning the Bending Light function, usually a stepper motor is used to swivel the projector. With the generalization of simulation tools, it is impossible to design headlamps without simulation support such as mechanical (FEM), optics, style, thermal behavior. With the Bending Light function development, it was necessary to get detailed information of stepper motor duty cycle in order to manage a safe thermal design. This was the starting point to define a new simulation tool based on digital data of cartography. This simulation described in the paper made possible to calculate the duty cycle of the actuator in extreme cases and to quantify the mission profile definition, which represent some fundamental characteristics in its design. The present document describes how, thanks to the cartography, one can foresee the temperature of the stepper motor in the most critical situations without resorting to vast campaigns of recording and so developing a robust conception and close to the strict need. This result is the fruit of several stages and different tools of simulation such as the calculation of the vehicle's course along a defined road, the simulation of the calculator of the Bending Light function, the calculation of the motor heating and the calculation of number of swiveling cycles. The increase of the cartographies data and the expansion to all the countries around the world allows to offer more and more rich and accurate data bases. The presented simulation shows a possible use for a better knowledge of the Bending Light function and doubtless inaugurates various works for other AFS functions where the adaptation to the environment takes all its importance.
