The new Britomart railway station, in Auckland, New Zealand, is fitted with state-of-the-art control security and fire alarm/suppression, ventilation, and electrical power systems. This paper describes how these systems are integrated to produce an overall outcome that minimises the scope for human error at crucial times in an emergency and achieves a level of safety considered greater than the sum of each individual part.
