The gINT software has been selected as a geotechnical data management and reporting tool for the development of the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) project in Qatar, the world's first airport designed specifically to accommodate the Airbus A380-800 'Super Jumbo.' NDIA's USD 2.5 billion phase one is scheduled for completion in 2008 and will cover 22 km2. The new airport will be capable of handling 12 million passengers per year and 750,000 tons of cargo. When fully developed in 2015, the airport can handle up to 50 million passengers and 2 million tons of cargo per year. The software company's flagship data management and reporting product, gINT Professional, is being used by the geotechnical department of the Joint Venture NDIA team to manage all of the geotechnical data for the reclamation work. 40 % of the airport's site will be developed on land reclaimed from the Arabian Gulf. This requires the dredging of 60 million m3 of sand. Additional logistical concerns include 100 zone load tests, more than 3000 trial pies with in situ CBR and density testing, and laboratory testing with classification tests, proctor, vibratory tables, and lab CBR. Also, scores of monitoring locations are planned including settlement markers, extensometers, rod settlement gauges and standpipes. Over 900 data collection points (trial pits, CPTs, zone load tests, etc.) are already in the database for the first small section, accounting for about 5 % of the project area.
