In order to utilize further potentials in vehicle body manufacturing lt is essential to push for a dose engagement between vehicle safety and forming technology. Requirements which can be derived from crash tests and deformation images of today's vehicles enable design and manufacturing engineers, especially forming engineers, to develop low-cost and safe bodies for tomorrow's vehicles. Iteration loops in testing such newly created possible solutions (in conjunction with vehicle safety) enable a fast and targeted implementation for serial production. This paper describes requirements for crash-relevant components, forming manufacturing methods such as cold and hot forming, as well as possible solutions concerning optimization of component properties and manufacturing systems.
