The project presented in this paper had the goal to analyse the new technology of Flexible Taylored Rolled blanks (TRB) and application to a Crash Management Bumper System. The investigation was across the forming process from simulation to prototype phase and validation in production/assembly on a serial equipment. Flexible Rolling is designed as a continuous rolling process for all kind of rollable metals. The process is owned by the company Muhr & Bender (MUBEA), Attendorn in Germany. The principal of Flexible Rolling is to control the gap during the rolling process. The investigation of the process chain of TRB has proven that it is comparable to conventional rolling of sheet metal. The reproducibility of the thickness contour is given from blank to blank. Forming of TRB in the transition area does not show any difficulties on dimensional accuracy. Spring back and flowability of utilized material (ZSTE 340, CPW 800) are similar to the production of normal sheets. The forming simulation has affirmed the production. There were not any problems to achieve dimensional accurate parts. The results from Crash test have been comparable to the bumper system used in serial production.
