Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) of aircrafts requires long-term investments in expensive resources like hangars, their equipment, specialized teams with certified educations, supply chains and stocks for certified components, spare parts and exchangeable units. Efficient MRO requires adapting these resources to the needs. As adaptation of the resources requires long terms, the needs have to be planned on long terms. In medium and short terms needs have to be coordinated to smooth out bottlenecks and overcapacities. Aircraft MRO planning is the most demanding forecasting, planning and simulation task. Appropriate MRO planning does not only influence efficiency of MRO activities but has direct impact on the efficiency of the airlines. An integrated planning solution which covers the entire planning horizon over years up to the actual week is a 'must have' to allow maximal resource utilisation, minimal turnaround times, and optimal benefit from advanced working time models like annual working time. As an outstanding example of a planning tool that satisfies most of the requirements Pd/ALM of PIDAS is described in the paper. Pd/ALM not only serves as software for MRO planning, to a certain extent it can also be used as Management Information System to answer some of the most pressing business issues: Which clients, services or product contribute how much margin, which employee qualifications need to be raised to satisfy future requirements? A suitable planning solution and its successful use have significant impact on the following essential business perspectives: - potential (people, organisation, tools), process (business processes), customer (e.g. airlines, passengers), financial (e.g. turnover, ROI).
