According to recent surveys, there has been an uptick in metalforming-press sales in the United States. It is the aim of the present article to demonstrate how some of these new presses are impacting the market. The 'Jageman Stamping Company' produces automotive fluid-power connectors, deep-drawn oil-filter can and similar relatively small drawn parts. As there exist an economic demand for larger parts requiring deeper draws and more press tonnage, the company bought a 300-ton servo-drive mechanical press. Advantages are the higher productivity and flexibility which allows the company to offer a lot more products. Applications are, for example, drawn motor-housing cups, clamp rings for garbage disposals from galvanized draw-quality steel and fuel-system components. 'Tella Tool and Manufacturing Co.' deals with some high-tonnage embossments and high strength steel-sheets. The company replaced their old press with a Minster E2H-600 geared twin-drive press, to increase stroke rate and quality of the stamped parts. Among the job running of the new press are radially formed parts for automotive window mechanisms from hot-dipped galvanized steel. Another application field is stamping large barbecue-grill panels from Type 304 stainless steel. To further its party-quality 'Tella' developed an inline visual-inspection system installed at the end of the new press, integrated with the press controls, to inspect the parts as they exit the press. The 'ERJ Manufacturing' is established as a supplier for the Japanese automotive industry. One key to success is the new 400-ton Stamtec S2 press, that stamps washer-style parts for weldments provided to Nissan as counterbalances for its cars; and motor-mount cases and brackets for Honda. Integrated with the press is an space-saving straightener-feeder, a press controller and a monitoring system.
