The focus of this paper is on a case study that illustrates the consequences of changes in technology management implemented in a high tech sector - the aerospace industry - to face the challenge raised by globalisation. Innovation, the capacity of economies to change and adapt to their environment, has been shown to be deeply rooted in clusters, and strongly related to the organisation of the industry implemented locally. As a consequence, today the aerospace industry can be considered as globalised and localised. The recent evolutions implemented in the French aerospace industry are labelled as a French Revolution in the paper. The authors illustrate the shift from a national - regional logic towards a global - local one as nexus of economic and technological development. Relevant economic conditions foster the emergence and viability of high tech clusters, the co-presence of three interrelated set of generic conditions is necessary: 1. The existence of economies of scale and scope within the cluster. 2. The possibility of localisation economies, buzz, within global networks of innovation. 3. The appropriate configurations of socio-economic context to hold down global innovation networks and unleash local potential. The case of Toulouse, in the south west of France, which can be considered today as the European capital of the civil aerospace industry, will allow to grasp the different dimensions involved in this process: technology management, organisation, territories. In Toulouse, the transition from a regional system of production to a local system of innovation exemplifies the dynamics raised by the globalisation of the contemporaneous economies.
