The need for converting a 25,000 tonne cargo ship into a vessel to transport orange juice by Holvrieka Nirota B.V., Netherlands is discussed. The designers of the tank wanted an interface between the tank and the deck that would support it. Engineers chose hardwood for this interface and they wanted to be certain that it could handle the everyday stresses and loads that a tank filled with orange juice will impose, before placing it. The engineers simulated the hardwood surface in the finite element analysis program NeiNastran from Noran Engineering Inc. of Westminister, California to make sure the ship's hull and tank did not touch even during transport.
