The use of powder metallurgy (PM) for testing truck gearboxes is discussed. This technique reduces the amount of waste materials. Gear rolling in couple with PM gear manufacturing enhances fatigue properties due to the increased density in the surface region. The non-densified PM materials withstand the loads for a smaller number of cycles than the solid steel reference. It is pointed that by increasing the density from 7.01 g/cm3 to 7.44 g/cm3 by employing warm compaction elevates the tooth root fatigue performance.
