A simple 12V Starter Alternator Reversible System has been developed to provide cost effective, silent and quick stop-start solution for small displacement engines city cars. 12+12 and 14+X Systems will enhance the cranking capability to larger displacement gasoline and Diesel engines. Up to 5 kW braking energy can be recovered with 14+X and double layer capacitors with a local 24 V voltage. Furthermore, up to 3 kW torque assistance can be achieved with 14+X although the real performance (power and duration) will strongly depend on the electrical architecture and battery or Ucaps sizing and management. Nevertheless, up to 25 kW can be necessary to reach the full benefit of Mild Hybrid Systems in term of fuel consumption, CO2 and other pollutants emissions. Consequently, Valeo is developing advanced Motor Alternator Reversible Systems, either based on claw poles or on new structures, separated or integrated into the power-train in order to meet the right cost to benefits ratio.
